TN Illegal Immigration Legislation To Follow Final Study Committee Meeting

Recently, Representative Robin Smith (R-Hixson) told the Tennessee Conservative that she had submitted new legislation regarding illegal immigration issues in the state of Tennessee.
Unfortunately, we do not have any details regarding that legislation at this time but the chairs of the Joint Study Committee on Refugee Issues have told us that new legislation will not be worked on until their final meeting is complete on November 15th.
Senator Dawn White (R-Murfreesboro) said, “After the final meeting, we will be working on drafting legislation based on testimony.”
Representative Dan Howell (R-Cleveland) echoed White’s statement by saying, “I do not anticipate a bill being drafted until hearings are completed and the committee report is written.”
“Senator White and I have discussed the possibility of legislation being presented as a result of the hearings,” Howell said, “Rep Smith has discussed with me the possibility of sponsoring her own bill.”
The final meeting of the committee will feature presentations by the following:
- Office of the Governor – Valerie Yancey, Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs & Eric Mayo, Legislative Liaison
- Department of Children’s Services – Drew Wright, Executive Director of Legislation and Policy
- Bethany Christian Services – Amy Scott, Tennessee State Director & Dana Anderson, Vice President of Refugee and Immigrant Children’s Services
- Bridge Refugee Services, Inc. – Drocella Mugorewera, Executive Director
- Catholic Charities of East Tennessee – Alessandra Ceccarelli, Office of Immigrant Services, DOJ Accredited Representative
The meeting will take place on Monday, November 15th, 2021 at 10:00AM CST in House Hearing Room III, Cordell Hull Building, in Nashville. The meeting is also slated to be live-streamed on capitol.tn.gov.

The formation of the Joint Study Committee was first announced in early June of this year by House Speaker Cameron Sexton and Lt. Governor Randy McNally in response to outrage expressed over the federal government’s program to resettle hundreds of unaccompanied children apprehended by immigration officials in Tennessee.
Tennessee Conservative subscribers sounded off on the formation of the committee and expressed overall that Tennesseans want our legislators to act, not just study the issues.
One Tennessee Conservative subscriber said, “Committee is political shorthand for Stall! In a court of law Tennessee would be listed as a ‘Co-Conspirator”’ with the Biden/Harris Administration.”
John Sakowich said, “Will someone please explain to me why we need a study???? These people are illegal. What part of this don’t our reps. get? We need to remove these people from the state of TN. We didn’t invite them and we do not need to strain our own state budget to take care of them. I sure didn’t invite them here and I am pretty sure not too many other people of TN invited them. Put them on a plane and send them to Mexico and let them deal with it. Or send them to Washington DC and let them deal with them. Biden is doing this for one reason and one reason only – to break this country and do it state by state. WE don’t need a study. We need action by our legislators.”
Ralph Balch put the blame firmly on Governor Lee for the illegal immigrants being relocated to Tennessee.
“They’re here because our Governor allowed it. I voted for the man and am very disappointed in his actions,” Balch said.
Kathy Johnson said, “I don’t think it is right putting these illegals in Tennessee or using our tax money for them such as teachers and for taking care of them. They are not our problem and we don’t want them here. I am not the only one that feels this way. There are many of us. We expect the government representatives to take care of the American people living in Tennessee. This was Biden’s idea – let him take care of them or send them back where they came from. We pay our representatives so do what you are paid to do.”
With the last meeting taking place next week, we may be nearing the point where Tennessee legislators will create bills to address illegal immigration issues but whether the bills will have any “teeth” remains to be seen.
The Tennessee Conservative will cover the last meeting of the Study Committee and will continue to follow any legislation that emerges as it is presented and debated upon when the General Assembly reconvenes in January.

You are right! What don’t people understand about “illegal”? No studies or committees are needed. They have broken our laws. I welcome them, but come here the right way, as our ancestors did. Our ancestors came WANTING to become Americans! They WANTED to learn our language and culture. They WANTED to work hard and earn their way. They DID NOT come here wanting free everything.
Our politicians have sold us out! They know EXACTLY what they are doing! It is a Marxist tactic to change the demographics of a country. They are going state by state, and sending them to conservative states for their vote. The child sex trafficking is exploding! The drug traffic and crime is exploding! The Demorats earn their money from these issues. President Trump was trying to save the children.

Well this act being put on by our RINO thick Committees is like pouring Molasses on a Cold winter’s day–nothing ever comes out of it. I spoke to Rep Dan Howell, gave him a few suggestions but saw (when his eyes glazed over) nothing of any consequence would done. You know I guess we expect the same folks to do the same old thing and expect a different outcome–stupidity knows no bounds does it. I want everyone of the RINO population in Nashville that–This Ain’t Your Papaw’s Republicans’ Party Anymore –Change is in the air.
