“This announcement of the state of the vote by the President of the Senate shall be deemed a sufficient declaration of the persons elected President and Vice President of the United States each for a term beginning on the 20th day of January 2025 and shall be entered together with the list of the votes on the journals of the House and the Senate.”

With those words from Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 Presidential election was officially certified by a joint session of Congress on January 6, 2025.

With the special session lasting a brief 30 minutes, members from the teller committee, comprised of one Republican and one Democrat from each chamber, read each state’s certified election results aloud to verify the certificates and count the votes.

Democrat Senator Amy Klobuchar officially recorded Tennessee’s vote by declaring, “Madam President, the certificate of the electoral vote of the state of Tennessee seems to be regular in form and authentic, and it appears therefrom that Donald J. Trump of the state of Florida received 11 votes for President and JD Vance of the state of Ohio received 11 votes for Vice President.”

After all the votes had been recorded and counted, Harris read the totals for each candidate before officially declaring Donald Trump and JD Vance the certified winners of the 2024 election. Trump and Vance received 312 electoral votes while Harris and Walz received 226.

The certification of this particular election is significant not only because it brings the country one step closer to Donald Trump’s historic return to the White House, but because this cycle marks the first time in over two decades that Democrats have not in some form protested the certification of a Republican winner.

Insurrection Barbie, a popular social media commentator, celebrated this achievement on X. “For the first time in this century, Democrats did not challenge the certification of a Republican president. Every other Republican win since 2001 has been challenged by democrats.”

Below, The Tennessee Conservative has also compiled comments and statements from the Tennessee Congressional delegation about the day’s events:

Senator Bill Hagerty: On the morning of Jan. 6, Hagerty reposted a message from Donald Trump expressing Trump’s excitement for “a big moment in history”. Hagerty added his own comments, stating, “On November 5th, the American people handed @realDonaldTrump a historic mandate to Make America Great Again. Today, we will certify that mandate and get our country back on the right track.”

Senator Marsha Blackburn: Blackburn’s team did not feel they could respond to The Tennessee Conservative’s request for comment in time. She did not make any social media posts specific to the certification.

Diana Harshbarger (D1): Harshbarger offered a short but pointed statement on social media, “Certified. Now it’s time to deliver the America First Agenda for the American people!”

Tim Burchett (D2): Burchett posted two videos through the day, the first on his way into the Capitol and a second with his post-certification commentary, both interspersed with greetings, thanks, and friendly banter to police officers. Regarding the certification, Burchett seemed to carry a lighthearted attitude, saying, “It was pretty uneventful. I guess it’s a lot of pomp and circumstance but it’s necessary to be done. And you treat it with respect because it is democracy and it’s a peaceful exchange of power. It was a peaceful transfer of power. Thank ya’ll for sending me here.”

Charles “Chuck” Fleischmann (D3): Fleischmann stated on X, “It was an honor and privilege today to certify President-elect Trump’s landslide win to be our next President! In two weeks, we will inaugurate President Trump and begin getting our country back on track again!”

Scott DesJarlais (D4): DesJarlias did not make any comments about the day and has messages disabled for social media.

Andy Ogles (D5): Ogles posted an image proclaiming his vote for certification with the caption, “It’s time to save America.”

John Rose (D6): Rose stated via social media, “Today, Congress proudly certified the election results of @realDonadTrump’s historical 2024 Presidential Election victory. Now, I’m looking forward to his swearing-in, and immediately getting to work to enact his agenda mandated by the American people.”

Mark Green (D7): Green’s team did not respond to The Tennessee Conservative’s request for comment, and he did not issue any statements specific to the certification on social media or his website.

David Kustoff (D8): Before the vote, Kustoff looked forward to certifying Trumps’ “strong victory” and “ushering in a new era in America.” After the certification, another post reemphasized, “Today, I voted to certify the 2024 election of @realDonaldTrump and @JDVance as our next President and Vice President. In November, the American people delivered a strong electoral victory for President Trump, including a decisive win with the popular vote. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress and the incoming Trump administration to get our country back on track.”

Steve Cohen (D9): The lone Democrat in Tennessee’s Congressional delegation did not make any remarks or comments on the day’s events.

  1. Note Steve Cohen, the “lone Democrat” in TN also voted to not return illegals charged with sexual abuse. Great move, Steve. He is also from the center of Memphis. What are these people thinking?
