Last year the Tennessee Legistlature passed, and the governor signed, Senate Joint Resolution 1571: “BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED TWELFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we hereby honor and congratulate Benjamin Slinkard on being chosen as the 2021–2022 May Werthan Shayne Elementary School Teacher of the Year, commend his exceptional service to the children of Tennessee, salute his professional expertise and personal excellence, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.” I saw a photo of Mr. Slinkard. He looks like a pretty regular guy, and I’m sure his students love him. The fact that he is a drag performer on his own time shouldn’t make a difference to anyone.
