3 Anti-Lobbying Bills Introduced In Tennessee Legislature

The Tennessee Conservative [By Jason Vaughn] –

Conservative Republicans have introduced three bills to reduce lobbyist influence in State and Local governments. 

All three of the bills have House and Senate versions and are making their way through the legislative process.

#1 – Banning Family Members of General Assembly From Being Lobbyists

House Bill 2522 (HB2522) sponsored by Representative Jerry Sexton (R-Bean Station-District 35) and Senate Bill 2193 (SB2193) sponsored by Senator Janice Bowling (R-Tullahoma-DIstrict 16), as introduced, prohibits a family member of a member of the general assembly from being a lobbyist while the member of the general assembly holds office. – Amends TCA Title 3, Chapter 6.

HB2522 was introduced on February 2nd.  SB2193 was introduced and passed on first consideration on the same date.

House Bill 2523 (HB2523) sponsored by Representative Jerry Sexton (R-Bean Station-District 35) and Senate Bill 2194 (SB2194) sponsored by Senator Janice Bowling (R-Tullahoma-DIstrict 16), as introduced prohibits a family member of a member of the general assembly from lobbying state or local governments while the member of the general assembly holds office. – Amends TCA Title 3, Chapter 6.

HB2523 was introduced on February 2nd.  SB2194 was introduced and passed on first consideration on the same date.

#3 – Banning Lobbyists From Serving In Local & State Government

House Bill 2785 (HB2785) sponsored by Representative Bruce Griffey (R-Paris-District 75) and Senate Bill 2838 (SB2838) sponsored by Senator Joey Hensley (R-Hohenwald-District 28), as introduced, prohibits paid lobbyists from serving as members of state and local boards, commissions, and other governmental entities. – Amends TCA Title 3, Chapter 6; Title 4 and Title 8.

HB2785 was introduced on February 2nd.  SB2838 was introduced and passed on first consideration on February 3rd.
