On Wednesday, July 28th, Democrats in the U.S. House of Representative blocked a bill that would help keep health protection at the Southern Border in check.

The Protecting Americans from Unnecessary Spread upon Entry (PAUSE) Act of 2021, H.R. 471, was co-sponsored by Tennessee Congressman David Kustov (TN-08).

“Through President Joe Biden’s open border policies, we are now seeing a health crisis at our southern border. Unfortunately, on Wednesday, House Democrats blocked the PAUSE Act. This bill would keep an important border health protection in place and help prevent immigrants who may be carrying the COVID-19 virus from entering our country,” Kustoff said.

According to Kustoff, this bill would have helped to prevent the massive influx of illegal immigration at our southern border by stopping immigrants who may be carrying COVID-19 from entering the country.

Last March under the Trump administration, Title 42 was implemented.

Title 42 is a border health protection that allows U.S. Customs and Border Protection to expel undocumented immigrants to prevent the spread of the virus in the United States.

Now, President Biden is threatening to end this vital public health order.

“Title 42 has been an effective mitigation strategy to reduce the spread of COVID-19 into the United States from outside our borders. Until the pandemic is fully over, border health protections must remain in place,” said Rep. Kustoff. ” The PAUSE Act is a commonsense bill that would ensure the health and well-being of our Border Patrol Agents, Customs and Border Protection officers, and all Americans. The safety and security of our citizens will always remain a top priority for me and my colleagues here in Congress.”

In mid-July, United States Senators Bill Hagerty and Marsha Blackburn joined Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and three other Senate GOP colleagues in introducing the SHIELD Act (Securing the Homeland from International Entrants with Life-threatening Diseases Act) that aimed to codify Title 42.

If passed, this bill would prevent President Joe Biden from abruptly abolishing the policy, which proved highly successful under the Trump administration.

Hagerty stated that the Biden Administration has already “watered down” Title 42 and that the reports that the administration may do away with it completely are “highly concerning.”

“Ending Title 42 is just another step in Joe Biden’s open border agenda,” Senator Blackburn said, “Biden has made it clear that he will do anything to allow illegal aliens to flood our country and appease the radical left, including putting the health and safety of Americans in jeopardy.”

Also in July, U.S. Rep. Yvette Herrell (R-NM) introduced a companion bill to the SHIELD Act in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Title 42 is the only policy keeping Biden’s border crisis from becoming an unmitigated, uncontrollable catastrophe. Prematurely ending those critical health protections makes it clear the Biden administration prioritizes open borders over the health and safety of American citizens. The first bill I introduced sought to keep Title 42 in place, and I’m proud to continue leading the House effort to maintain this crucial safeguard,” said Herrell.
