District-Level TCAP Results Show Slight Improvement In Knox County Students

The Tennessee Conservative Staff –

School districts received district-level TCAP results for the 2022-2023 school year from the Tennessee Department of Education on Tuesday.

The results show how districts fared in four major content areas: English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. According to TDOE, most districts saw improvement over the previous year.

Across the state, math scores lagged behind other subject areas, specifically in high schools. 54% of Tennessee students were below expectations in math, with only 23% actually scoring in the proficient range.

ELA showed 38.1% of students meeting or exceeding expectations, while science and social studies both coming in at 43.1%.

All four content areas did show minimal improvement in the number of students who met or exceeded expectations.

Knox County students surpassed the state average in all four areas:

• ELA: 41.2% met or exceeded expectations, increasing from 39.5% in 2022

• Math: 33.9% met or exceeded expectations, increasing from 30.3% in 2022

• Science: 46.5% met or exceeded expectations, increasing from 44.3% in 2022

• Social Studies: 49.5% met or exceeded expectations, increasing from 48.6% in 2022
