Proposed Bill Would Prevent Teachers From Displaying Pride Flags In Tennessee Classrooms

The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
New legislation has been introduced that would prohibit school districts and public charter schools in the state from displaying any flags other than the U.S. flag and the Tennessee state flag.
House Bill 1605 (HB1605), sponsored by State Representative Gino Bulso (R-Brentwood-District 61), would amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 5-5-114; Section 6-54-144 and Title 49. The legislation is co-sponsored by State Representative Jake McCalmon (R-Franklin-District 63).
The proposed legislation comes after parents in Williamson County appealed to the school board for a similar policy last month. Parents who were upset over the displaying of LGBTQ+ and Pride flags in classrooms argued that classrooms should be neutral areas and should not have any symbols that are not aligned with the primary purpose of the class.Â
Parents in attendance at a recent Williamson County School Board meeting stated that they felt the best means of handling the issue would be to create a policy that allowed only the U.S. and Tennessee flags, eliminating the possibility of any potential political indoctrination of students.
In response to concerns over the displaying of LGBTQ+ flags, Superintendent Jason Golden has previously stated that it would be a violation of the first amendment rights of district employees to force them to remove those flags from their classrooms.
However, others say that case law shows that those rights are only protected when individuals are acting as private citizens and not in their role as a public employee.
No pending action has been taken by the Williamson County School Board to update policies currently as far as we know, but the new legislation proposed by the two Williamson County representatives would instead bring about a statewide mandate against display of any potentially offensive flags in all public classrooms in Tennessee.
Should be prohibited to fly any flag other than federal and state flags anywhere in a public school. The indoctrination agenda is ridiculous. Unless we want Hamas flags, Nazi flags, KKK flags… the list would be absurd.

Surprise surprise Golden and his idiotic interpretation of the 1st Amendment. Fine – so why can’t Christian teachers hang a large cross behind their desks? Why not a Nazi flag and whatever else the left thinks is offensive?? Thank you Gino but if the state law has no teeth meaning if the district does not follow it there are financial consequences this is pointless. TN if filled with nothing but weak laws that are never enforced on a local level.
What we need in Williamson County is a school board that is sensitive to the desires of conservative families to have a school system where academics are in and Cultural Marxism in all its manifestations is out. Just so happens that school board elections in odd numbered districts are slated to begin in mid-February and I am sure Williamson Families PAC will have a list of candidates it endorses who should get conservative’s votes and financial support. STAY TUNED!!!

Golden is wrong if he thinks anyone should be able to fly any type of flag in public schools. As mentioned above, would he allow Swastikas, the Templars flag, the Confederate Flag, the Palestinian Flag, the Israel Flag, etc? ONLY 2 flags – US and TN.
The key is to take control of the School Boards. I’m in Williamson where 60% voted for Trump, but 3 years ago there were only 2 conservatives out of 12 on the School Board. Now it is 5 out of 12 and hopefully soon will be 7 conservatives. When that happens they can fire Golden if he is a problem. The guy before him was worse, so maybe Golden is going along with the Libs to keep his job.
By the way – thanks to the TN Legislature who changed the law to allow people to run for School Board based on a political party – before that it was “non-partisan” and that’s how the Leftists were elected. And thanks to Moms for Liberty and to TN Conservative News for publishing this.
