TN Senate Rejects Conservative Lawmaker’s School Safety Bill Due To His Call For McNally’s Resignation

The Tennessee Conservative [By Kelly M. Jackson] –

Last week a bill that would have enhanced the safety for all kids in Tennessee schools passed on the House Floor with sweeping bi-partisan support, with all 93 members present on the floor that day voting in favor of passage.

However, according to the bill sponsor Representative Todd Warner (R-Chapel Hill-District 92) – who called for the resignation of the Lieutenant Governor back in March over McNally’s social media exploits – he was told by a member of the State Senate, that due to his confrontation of Lt Governor McNally, that “they wouldn’t run it in the senate because of what I had done to McNally”.

After consistent lack of action on the bill in the Senate Education Committee, it was “general subbed” on March 29th, meaning they had no intention of dealing with the legislation during the session that just concluded on Friday.

Warner’s bill, HB0889, aimed to require a school official or teacher who observes or otherwise has knowledge of an assault and battery or vandalism endangering life, health, or safety committed by a student on school property to report the action immediately to the school principal and the director of schools, instead of reporting only to the school principal. – Amends TCA Title 49.

Current law only requires that the principal of the school be informed of any possible threats or acts of vandalism. The reason this is important is because while the principal has authority over the school, the director or superintendent of that district has broader authority to more quickly address any safety issues that could lead to serious harm if not addressed.

Regarding his call for McNally’s resignation, Warner told us, “Numerous members have said he should resign but everyone was afraid to call for his resignation. It’s the right thing to do for Senator McNally to resign. I’m praying for him and his family.”

The evidence against McNally seems clear. The young man, Franklyn McClur, who in social media posts McNally refers to as “Finn” an indication that he is perhaps more familiar with the man that he has alluded to, engaged in a friendship via social media over a period of several years.

In those posts, which several contain nearly nude photos of McClur, responses from Lt Governor McNally include emoji hearts, smiley faces with hearts, and flames.  One of the posts with provocative nearly nude photos, has a response from McNally, “Super look, Finn”.

This discovery led to shock and relative outrage from both sides of the aisle in the General Assembly, however, Representative Warner was alone in the call for McNally’s resignation in The House body. And over in the Senate, a secret vote within the Republican Caucus organized by McNally himself, yielded a vote of confidence with a final tally of 19-7.

Whether Representative Warner’s call for McNally’s resignation was justified, due to Warner’s actions in demanding accountability for the behavior, a bill that was designed to help keep Tennessee children safer at school was rejected as retribution.

We will continue to follow this story and update our readers on any new developments.

Awww, somebody got their feelings hurt so the get revenge by refusing to pass a bill that would have gone a long way to protecting students. This is not a State Legislature, it is a kindergarten class for buffoons.

Just like doctors and lawyers, apparently politicians and TN office holders protect their own too, instead of passing legislation benefiting Tennesseans! No wonder the percentage of people who trust government consistently diminishes!

Are our elected legislators appropriately in touch with We The People by whom they are elected and pledged to represent? Such behavior is grist for a Legislator suitability analysis come re-election time.

As patriotic conservatives watch Tennessee weakening, it should be a goal to vote out the RINO swine and replace them with actual conservatives that put kids’ well-being ahead of abhorant behavior by a few members.

This legislation would help make Tennessee Schoolchildren safer and yet was pushed aside the day before the horrific Monday Murders due to inner party politics … sad and disappointing!

Thank you, Rep. Warner, for being willing to speak up for what is right, even if it means calling out leaders within our own party.
